After many requests for guided trips, Adam has decided to offer as a special one-time experience, two guided hikes with him this October. These aren’t the kind of bug-infested, grueling, swamp-filled treks Adam enjoys on his expeditions, but instead relaxing (well mostly relaxing) trail-walking in beautiful settings with a focus on learning about nature and history. All the hikes are designed as day outings, intended to take roughly 3.5 hours with stops along the way to examine flora, fauna or historic sites.

Included in the price is a personalized signed first-edition, hardcover copy of Adam’s new book, Beyond the Trees (for the Algonquin hike), or A History of Canada in 10 Maps (for the Queenston hike), as well as chance to pick Adam’s brain about any questions you like in a small group setting.

SIGNED COPY INCLUDED WITH GUIDED HIKE!

There are 2 sessions to choose from for each hike (morning or afternoon). If history is your thing, and you enjoyed Adam’s best-seller 10 Maps, the Queenston hike is history focused, but with stuff about plants and trees too. If you’re less into history, the Algonquin hike is geared toward nature and survival content, with just a sprinkling of history so fascinating that even people who find archaeology boring will dig it. Details, including how to sign up, are below:

Sunday October 6, 8:30 AM-12:00 PM or 1:30-5:00 PM, Algonquin Highlands

  • 3.5 hour nature hike, some elevation gain, rocky sections, “moderate” difficulty rating by conventional standards
  • Trip starts and finishes near Algonquin Park, but outside the Park’s boundaries, at a designated trail-head with a parking lot (the exact location is disclosed via email once you’ve signed up–we don’t want anyone crashing our party.)
  • Stunning views of vibrant fall colours in all their glory, Adam will discuss trees, plants, traditional edible and medicinal uses, survival and wilderness tips, and exploration history while on the route.
  • Price is $100 per person plus HST (includes personalized autographed hardcover copy of Beyond the Trees, retail value: $32.95).
  • All participants must sign a waiver, and wear appropriate hiking boots and clothing (more details on that in the email), as well as provide their own transportation to/from the parking lot where we begin/finish.
  • All hikes are rain or shine, (this is the guy who wrote Alone Against the North, after all.) We only cancel for lightning (and ok, really heavy rain).
  • Participants can choose either the morning session (8:30-12:00 pm) or the afternoon session (1:30 pm-5:00 pm).
  • If you like what you’ve read, email admin@adamshoalts.com to reserve your spot (space is limited, so don’t delay).
  • Payment options: can be made by e-transfer or in person at the start of our hike (more in the email).

  • Trip starts and finishes near Queenston Heights, where there is a free parking lot (the exact location is disclosed via email once you’ve signed up.)
  • Adam will provide an in-depth tour of this fascinating site, rich in history and lore, as well as discuss trees, traditional edible and medicinal uses of wild plants, survival and wilderness tips, and exploration history while on the route.
