History and Nature hikes guided by Adam at some of his favourite locations with ancient trees, breathtaking vistas, and fascinating history. All participants on the hikes receive a signed copy of one of Adam’s books. The hikes are geared toward talking about plants, trees, survival content, and for the History Hikes, Canadian history. The hikes offer a chance to meet Adam and pick his brain with any questions you have in a small group setting.

There are 2 sessions to choose from for each hike (morning or afternoon). If history is your thing, and you enjoyed Adam’s best-seller 10 Maps, the Queenston and Old Fort Erie hikes are history focused, but with stuff about plants and trees too. If you’re less into history, the Algonquin and Temagami hikes are geared toward nature and survival content, with just a sprinkling of history so fascinating that even people who find archaeology boring will dig it. Details, including how to sign up, are below:

Temagami Old Growth Forest, Dates: September 12 or 13 (Saturday and Sunday)

  • 3.5 hour nature hike, some elevation gain, rocky sections, “moderate” difficulty rating by conventional standards
  • Trip starts and finishes near the town of Temagami at a designated trail-head with a parking lot (the exact location is disclosed via email once you’ve signed up–we don’t want anyone crashing our party.)
  • Adam will discuss trees, plants, traditional edible and medicinal uses, survival and wilderness tips, and exploration history while on the route.

  • All hikes are rain or shine, (this is the guy who wrote Alone Against the North, after all.) We only cancel for lightning (and ok, really heavy rain).

A Note on COVID-19 Precautions:

  • We will follow all public health guidelines on safe social distancing and other precautions regarding covid-19.
  • This includes maintaining a safe distance of at least 2 metres between each other (which fortunately isn’t too difficult outside)
  • Group size is kept limited (which is more fun anyways on nature hikes)
  • Since we are outside, masks aren’t mandatory but participants are welcome to wear one if they prefer. The exception is for the Old Fort Erie hike where masks are required to enter the buildings on our tour (the rest of the time we will be outside).
