Nature and history hikes guided by Adam at some of his favourite locations with ancient trees, breathtaking vistas, and fascinating history. The hikes are geared toward talking about wild mushrooms, plants, trees, survival content, and for the history hikes, Canadian history. The hikes offer a chance to meet Adam and ask any questions you have in a small group setting. All hikers receive a signed copy of one of Adam’s books. Just email admin@adamshoalts.com to sign up.

There are 2 sessions to choose from for each hike (morning or afternoon). If history is your thing, and you enjoyed Adam’s bestseller A History of Canada in 10 Maps, the Queenston hikes are history focused, but with stuff about plants and trees too. The Algonquin and Canadian Ecology Centre hikes are geared toward nature and survival content. Details, including how to sign up, are below:
Algonquin Highlands, October 4,5 2025

- 4 hour nature hike, some elevation gain, rocky sections, “moderate” difficulty rating by conventional standards
- Trip starts and finishes near Algonquin Park, but outside the Park’s boundaries, at a designated trail-head with a parking lot (the exact location is disclosed via email once you’ve signed up. The location is near Dorset.)
- Stunning views of vibrant fall colours, Adam will discuss wild mushrooms, trees, plants, traditional edible and medicinal uses, survival and wilderness tips, and exploration history while on the hike.
- Price is $150 per person plus HST (includes a personalized autographed copy of one of Adam’s books of your choosing). With HST, it’s $169.50.
- All participants must sign a waiver, and wear appropriate hiking boots and clothing (more details on that in the email), as well as provide their own transportation to/from the parking lot where we begin/finish.
- All hikes are rain or shine. We only cancel for lightning (and okay, really heavy rain).
- Participants can choose either the morning session (8:30-12:30 pm) or the afternoon session (1:30 pm-5:30 pm) on Saturday or Sunday.
