Adam Shoalts has been humbled by the many awards and honours bestowed upon him. Below is a partial list:
2009:
Government of Canada--Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council: Joseph Armand Bombardier Master's Scholarship, $17, 500.00. This prestigious scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence and strength/originality of research proposals to outstanding students pursuing M.A. degrees. Fittingly, Shoalts' research focuses on his passion---exploration, the wilderness, Grey Owl, and forest lore.
Brock University: Spirit of Brock Medal. This award is given annually to a graduating student at Brock University who is judged to best exemplify the spirit of Sir Isaac Brock, the heroic War of 1812 commander, particularly the traits of leadership and courage.
Brock University: Lillie A. Traver Scholarship, "awarded to a student with honours standing, majoring in History." Shoalts was selected by the History Department to receive this award for the class of 2009.
Brock University: Distinguished Graduating Student Award. This award is presented to, "the most distinguished graduate in Spring Convocation for each department." Shoalts was selected as the most distinguished graduate in Brock's History Department.
McMaster University: Shoalts has been awarded by McMaster University a Lynton R. Wilson Scholarship (2009) and a Graduate Scholarship (2009), both on the basis of academic excellence. Shoalts is pursuing his Master's degree in history at the university.
2008
Niagara Region: In May 2008, Shoalts was named the winner of the 2008 Niagara Region Environmental Award in the Volunteer Category. The award recognizes the work Shoalts has done "increasing public understanding and awareness" through his Welland Tribune columns,and his "Reflections of a Naturalist"column for the Voice of Pelham, public speaking engagments in schools and elsewhere, as well as his work as the founder and chair of the Friends of Coyle Creek. Brock University: Shoalts has won Brock University's 2007-08 Niagara Peninsula Society (Archaeological Institute of America) Prize in Classical Archaeology and History.
Brock University: Shoalts was also named the 2007-08 winner of Brock University's Department of History Third Year Book Prize.
2006:
Brock University: In 2006, Shoalts was named Brock University's Department of History's winner of the Donald Creighton Award.
2004:
District School Board of Niagara Scholarship Award for Canadian History.
